WGW: November 13th, 2019

Every week I send out an update to the medical school, which gets send out as part of WGW (What's Good Wednesday), an email where the associate deans of students compiles the professional and academic accomplishments and life events of the student body in an effort to help keep us connected even though we are spread out across lecture halls, campuses, and hospitals across the state. Usually populated by sporadic submissions of significance, after talking with friends before I left, I decided to twist the format to suit my needs to stay connected to my class. After the fifth week of consistent submission, my update was given it's own special place and title: Kassel's Corner.

Persisted greetings from the UK! Kassel Galaty (Med20/21) continues her transatlantic research. As hoped, she was able to actually do London things while in London this time and can confirm that the reports are true--there are things outside of the National Archives. She scored cheap seats to the National Theater's production of The Antipodes; she took advantage of the National Gallery's late closing time on Fridays and free admission and wandered through the halls of art; and she stumbled upon the Lord Mayor's Show on her way to the free admission at St. Paul's Cathedral (free because it was the Lord Mayor's Day) where she climbed to the top of the Golden Gallery for a panoramic view of London. BUT BEST OF ALL she stayed with (actual Med20) Caitlin Nichols' sister Carly in London!! The Med20 family ties and connections reach so far <3

She once again had the opportunity to look at old books (including a scroll where Pope Joan's name was scraped off of the parchment record of popes, an example of a scribal error leading to Moses having horns instead of a crown, and a 12th century bestiary where basically all animals looked like dogs) and is working to spread the gospel of mulled wine. It's in all the pubs and it's wonderful.

Cheers!

After the fifth week of consistent submission, my update was given it's own special place and title: Kassel's Corner.  Kassel Galaty (med20forlife) has been in Cambridge for a full month! This last week has been less travel- and activity-filled, and more lecture- and historical-fact-filled. She joined the Downing College rowing team and finally made it out on the water--the boat didn't tip over, no one fell in, ...

She turned in her second essay which was entitled, "Becoming a Doctor: Understanding the Intersection of Physician Attire, Medical Professionalism, and Identity." Here's an action shot of peer edits happening; you can tell its happe...
