Every week I send out an update to the medical school, which gets send out as part of WGW (What's Good Wednesday), an email where the associate deans of students compiles the professional and academic accomplishments and life events of the student body in an effort to help keep us connected even though we are spread out across lecture halls, campuses, and hospitals across the state. Usually populated by sporadic submissions of significance, after talking with friends before I left, I decided to twist the format to suit my needs to stay connected to my class. After the fifth week of consistent submission, my update was given it's own special place and title: Kassel's Corner.
Salutations from across the pond! Kassel Galaty (Med20 wannabe) stubbornly remains in England. Crunch-time is approaching as her first essay is due next Monday (send eloquent, concise, and historically illuminating vibes her way) so this is mostly what she has been doing:
She has so many books check out that even the librarian has threatened to cut her off.
In other news she "competed" in the Queens College Erg (Qergs) relay rowing competition, where the speed on the rowing machines was translated into a virtual boat race. She also attended a Compline mass with some of her coursemates where she not only got to listen to beautiful choral music, but she was rewarded with free hot chocolate and marshmallows. She tried a mulled sloe gin--yet another mulled seasonal British drink that she thoroughly approves of. And lastly she went to the final session of "Science in Print" where she got to visit Cambridge Library's historical printing room, where she learned about early printing press techniques, handled the original Baskerville font punches, and she got to print something (click here if you want to see video of her/my face beaming like a fool while I do nothing more than turn a handle.)
Cheers!
